About the department
It is one of the departments in the College of Education and Arts, established in 1409 AH, coinciding with the founding of the former teachers college. The department offers a Special Education program, which includes several tracks: the intellectual Disability track, the Learning disabilities track, the Behavioral disorders and Autism track, and the giftedness and talent track.
The department carries out various activities within and outside the college, including teaching courses in the general diploma in Education, contributing to teaching in the elementary education program, and participating in teaching courses in the diploma of learning resources which is supervised by the deanship of community service and continuing education. it also contributes to teaching courses in the family counselling diploma, and the thinking skills course offered by the Deanship of the Preparatory year. in addition, the department provides academic advising to university students and participates in training programs held at schools in the region, as well as community service initiatives.

Duration of Study
The program follows a level based system rather than a term based system.
The program includes four tracks as follows:
- Intellectual Disability track
- The Learning disabilities track
- The Behavioral disorders and Autism track
- The giftedness and talent track.
- Each trach contains Eight levels
Students also study preparatory year courses which include shared subjects such as: ( Thinking Skills ، Communication skills –Computer Skills- English – Math ) .
- First Level
The student studies six compulsory common courses across all tracks of the education program. these are foundational courses in addition to Islamic Culture 1 and Arabic Language 1 as university requirements.
- Second Level
Specialization stage according to program tracks.
- The student studies five compulsory shared courses among the program tracks, in addition to Islamic Culture 2 and Applied Arabic Language 1 as university requirements.
- There is also one specialization course through which the student determines the appropriate track.
- By the end of level two the student will have selected a specific program track.
- Third Level
The student studies six common courses across all program tracks one elective university requirement from the Islamic culture courses Two Four and Seven and two courses from the detailed specialization within the program.
- Fourth Level
The student studies five compulsory shared courses across all program tracks, in addition to one elective university requirement from the Islamic culture courses Five Six or Eight. and Arabic Language 2 as a college requirement. and two courses from the student specific program track.
- Fifth Level
This level includes eight courses. Three compulsory shared courses. two elective college requirements. Educational Thoughts. History of the Kingdom. Principles of Administration. Recitation and Tajwid. And three courses from the student specialized track.
- Sixth Level
At this level the student studies eight courses, including five compulsory courses. two elective specialization courses. and one field project course based on the student's specific specialization.
- Seventh Level
At this level. the student takes on field training. Eight Accredited Hours. In addition to two elective courses.
